Common All-O-Matic Failures We Repair
Most All-O-Matic service calls come down to a short list of symptoms, and each one points somewhere specific:
- Humming but not moving. On AC slide units this is usually a failed start capacitor or a worn drive component, not a dead motor. It is one of the least expensive repairs we do.
- Clicking with no movement. A relay firing into a dead circuit, a board fault, or power not making it past the transformer.
- Beeping from the cabinet. DC operators with battery backup complain when their batteries age out or charging fails. Batteries are a service item, not an emergency.
- Control board faults. Heat-baked or moisture-damaged boards cause intermittent operation, dead accessory inputs, or a gate that works only some days. We test boards on site.
- Limit switch drift. The gate stops short, hits the stop post, or reopens at the end of travel. Limits get readjusted or replaced as routine work.
- Remote and receiver loss. Remotes that will not pair, surge-damaged receivers, keypads that stop talking to the operator. All standard fixes, and if you want to modernize entry we handle gate access control upgrades too.
- Gate stuck open or stuck closed. Any of the above, plus obstruction faults, loop detector problems, or a mechanical bind in the gate itself. We always test in manual release first, so a healthy motor never gets condemned.
The All-O-Matic Models We See Most
SL-100. A workhorse AC slide operator that has moved LA driveway and apartment gates for years. Typical failures are start capacitors, relays, chain and sprocket wear, and limit adjustments, nearly all of it repairable at the component level. SL-150DC. The DC slide operator we service more than any other All-O-Matic unit, a favorite on multifamily buildings because it keeps running through power outages on battery. SW-300. All-O-Matic’s swing operator. We most often see limit switch issues, board faults, and worn arm hardware, and on gates that have sagged over time the operator gets blamed for what is really a hinge problem. We check the gate before we touch the motor.
Beyond these three, we service the rest of their slide and swing operator lines. If the model tag on your unit is faded past reading, we will identify it on site.
Repair or Replace?
Our rule is simple: a failed capacitor costs a repair, not a new operator. The same goes for batteries, limits, relays, receivers, and most board swaps. Because All-O-Matic manufactures locally, parts support tends to be stronger than for discontinued imports, which pushes the math even further toward repair. Replacement becomes the honest answer when the motor windings and gearbox are both worn out, the unit is chronically undersized for the gate, or you are paying for the same fix twice a year.
